The 2008 Fashion Fights Poverty visual campaign celebrates its 4th year as a leader in raising awareness about socially-responsible fashion by honoring American innovations not only in visual and fashion design, but also in how Americans have used creative means to address global issues. By reinterpreting iconic images of Americana – from candy-colored pinup girls in Los Angeles, to Coney-Island postcards, to the Kennedy White House – FFP pays homage to our nation’s rich artistic, cultural and philanthropic heritage while showcasing clothing and accessories created by up-and-coming American designers.
These images are collected in the 3rd annual Dress Responsibly Look book, a catalogue of chic, contemporary and ethical designers modeled by celebrities and everyday citizens who have pledged support for our cause. While it is conceived, art directed, designed and supported by Style & Image Network, it is the product of collaboration amongst many different talents. Past contributors have come from Bogotá, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York City, Puerto Rico, and Washington, DC. Believing that at the center of FFP beats the stylish and socially-responsible consumer, the FFP team extends this sincere attempt to provide an eye-catching resource for those interested in supporting community development through ethical fashion.
Within the book's pages are a global swatch of clothes, accessories and home décor from designers who promote responsible principles such as environmental sustainability, equitable employment and fair trade; and non-profit, non-governmental organizations which use fashion and design to promote self-empowered micro-entrepreneurial projects as vehicles for poverty eradication. The resulting accoutrement of these endeavors, as you will see throughout the book, range from sexy and chic to classic and cosmopolitan.
By taking on “America” as a theme, FFP draws a link between the mission of Fashion Fights Poverty and what, we believe, it means to be an American. In this historic election year – where the focus is change and innovation – FFP believes that to be an American is to conceive and build innovative solutions to our common problems. Whether those concerns are poverty, the environment, or ensuring the dignity of our fellow sisters and brothers, FFP believes that our nation’s entrepreneurial spirit must be nurtured and directed towards new and sustainable ways of meeting those challenges. FFP has always been and will continue to be dedicated to this mission: by celebrating the work of entrepreneurial designers who work to protect the Earth and promote its people, FFP channels fashion’s passion, drive and innovation to combating global poverty. And by supporting organizations like Nest, Aid to Artisans or BeadforLife, FFP builds support for those courageous citizens who dare to solve problems in new ways.
